so today me and my favorite ME went to lunch. we were about to split cuz he had work and i had to go to lab, but then we saw the alcoholic chick. so we just kinda hung out with her for a bit.
then she started asking me all these soils-related questions. what is Cc? what is av? what is Cv? i said, uh...i dunno. then i decided to take my homework out to show her how i did it. good thing i did cuz she thought Cv was the same as Cc. well, if you've never taken soil mechanics, you're probably thinking, wtf is this girl talking about. but anyway, that was when i started going crazy.
you see, the void ratio of soil is related to the log of its pressure. and the slope of of that relationship is Cc. as i see it, Cc is the more discrete name for the "virgin compression curve." i've always thought it weird that it's called a "virgin" curve. then my favorite ME asked me, why is it called a "virgin"? then i said, uh..i dunno...maybe it's cuz it's the kind of soil that's never been touched???
we started laughing after i said that. i wanted to keep the momentum going so i asked my favorite ME and the alcoholic chick what engineering terms turn them on. we amazingly came up with a decently long list. haha.
but anyway...it was all i thought about the whole time i was driving from school. now i think it's because it's really a virgin soil. you know, never been touched.
