last night i was talking to His Bro, and he was telling me how it's not fair that some of us have to work extra hours while other people get to go home early. and how it always happens. and how we don't get any incentive to work those extra hours. he said at least the drafting people get paid overtime if they work more than eight hours on a regular day and if they come in and work on the weekends. but we don't get that kind of incentive. we get nothing. if you think about it, we actually lose money when they make us work those extra hours. he said he's getting pushed really close to the edge...he's really close...
i said i agreed. it's not fair. i spend more gas money. my hourly rate goes down, and i become cheap labor. if you're working 50+ hours and only getting paid for 40, and the drafting people get paid extra and more, then in the end, they probably end up making more money than you, even though your job requires more thinking and less slacking. especially when you know your project manager is breathing down your neck so you try hard to make it to your deadline. deadlines can go suck it. but at least i'm not unemployed. shouldn't that be enough incentive?
i wish they'd AT LEAST, give us credit for the extra hours that we never want to put in. AT LEAST give us extra vacation time. they're making extra money off of us, but what do we get in return? i guess i'd settle for at least some recognition for the work i do. (side story: i worked 50-60+ hours weeks last summer for this project manager, and he never even recognized my hard work. he didn't even say a word to me the whole time i was working on his project. that ughhhh...)
maybe i'm just failing to see the good reasons for having to spend my weekends at work. i guess i'm just too bummed out because i have no one to talk to about it. i can't bitch to my engineering friends because i know they'll say, "you shouldn't be complaining about having work...there are people who would gladly trade places with you..." i can't complain to my non-engineering friends either because they just won't understand the whats/whys/hows of my frustrating desk job.
but anywho...must get ready now. must spend beautiful saturday morning at 553 Wald. must enslave self to the failing corporate america.
belgrave can go suck it. garden grove can go suck it. effff...
